Back in February of 2021 I set out to create an Animatronic Rod Puppet as a portfolio piece that would combine my skill set and demonstrate my interest in creature design & animatronics to prop departments as a means of finding creative work. I did this in my evenings and weekends until in 2022 I was noticed and employed at Pinewood Studios working on major Film and TV productions as an animatronic designer in CFX dept.
Just before I packed up for the big leagues I put this little guy together using all the scraps/leftovers from that original Animatronic Puppet - Check out that behemoth of a project on my YouTube channel - Freedom Friday Animatronic Rod Puppet.
This scruffy wee fella was essentially built with the majority of scrap parts or duplicates. There was plenty of trial and error and this little hand puppet is a Frankenstein creation of those parts, coupled with an old purple rug and some basic foam/fur puppet building techniques.
